RCBS Trim Pro Manual Case Trimmer Kit

Trim cases with a few turns of the handle. The Trim Pro's spring-loaded lever shellholder holds brass securely and eliminates muscle fatigue. Works with standard pilots and features a micrometer fine adjustment bushing calibrated for setting exact trim length. Made of die cast metal with hardened cutting blades. Kit includes RCBS shellholders 2, 3, 4, and 10 plus pilots in 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 30, 35, 44 and 45 calibers.

I'm looking to buy this trimmer and want to know what your thoughts on it. What are your likes and dislikes on it?

I'm looking to reload the 22 Hornet, 220 Swift, 30-30, Rem280 and 45LC/454 Casull. Will I need to buy extra accessories for it or will this be all I need for trimming for what I listed ?

I use a Lee case trimmer. Each caliber has a specific "spacer rod" with this being screwed into the cutter. Once the rod is screwed in, the length will never change. I welded a 5/8" open-end wrench to the end of the cutter to make it easier to handle and to loosen the shell holder for each case needing trimming. I can trim a .223 case in 24 seconds, timed from when I start the current case to the start of the next case.

I started with the RCBS manual trimmer and have since upgraded it with the motor assembly to make it more automated. If you trim a lot the motor comes in real handy and cuts down on fatigue. Overall, I have no complaints on the trimmer...works fine for what I use it for.

You can use the shellholders that come with it for the 30-30 and 280 but you will need to buy additional shellholders (a few bucks each) for the Hornet, Swift, and Casull. My RCBS chart says a #12, #11, and #20 respectivly. They also have the chart on rcbs.com.

Hope this helps.

I'm with root beer! I remember those days with the manual trimmer, blisters and all, the Lee stuff is a lot better. I bought the Lee Zip Trim

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=515804

mounted it on a piece of 2x4 and clamp it in my vise. They you get the caliber specific case length gauge

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=458558

which screws into a cutter and ball grip

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=136199

and you will be able to trim fast, square, and exactly the same length every time and you've only spent $24.00 plus shipping.

My Lyman trimmer hasn't been used in a year since I switched.

I went with the motorized RCBS right out of the gate and never regretted it. If you reload a lot of bottlenecked rifle cases, this can really speed up the whole process .
With the 3 way cutterhead all you do is set it up once and then let the powerful electric motor turn away.
Piece of cake.

I use the Trim Pro Manual and it does the job with little effort. It must be fastened down by some means to be efficient. I prefer it over the Lee, but find the Lee to be a great value and what I used until I mounted my Trim Pro to the bench.

Keep a case from each caliber trimmed to the length you prefer to reduce setup time when switching calibers.

I have the manual version. It works fine if you're trimming 50 to 100 cases at a time, but if your a real volume loader, I'd opt for the motor.

If you ever reload .458 rifle, the pilot '45R' isn't in the kit. The '45' pilot, included in the kit, works fine for my 45 ACP/45 Colt cases.

The RCBS unit seems to be a solid, good quality unit, I have trimmed thousands of cases and it has stood the test. I would buy another.

You may want to look at the optional stand. As stated above, you really need a solid mounting for the trimmer.

Don't forget to get a decent quality vernier caliper.

Sorry for not getting back here sooner to thanks you all for the help! I ordered the RCBS Trim Pro Manual Case Kit the other day. I wish I could have bought to motorized one but with all the reloading stuff I've been buying lately, I knew it wouldn't go over well with the wife.

Thanks again Big Grin

You can always upgrade and add the motor and base-plate later!

My wife got me a RCBS Trim Mate last year and it's really gotten a lot of use!
She got me the motorized RCBS Trim Pro for my birthday last month! I love it! Trim consistancy is very accurate!

What is the 3-way cutter that I read about in a few of these posts!
If it's what I'm thinking, it might put my Trim Mate out of business!
I've been looking through the Midway catalog and can't seem to find it, but I might be looking right over it!

Take care all;

The three way cutter trims to length, inside, and outside deburs the case mouth.

Thanks for the info, Quarter Round!

I found it in the catalog about 15 minutes after I made the post!
Kind of pricy little items aren't they!
But I could see where if a guy was set on doing 1000 or so cases at one shot, this would be the way to go!

Thanks again!
