Any idea what stopped it? My .308 bullets (in 308 and 30-06) almost always go all the way through. The only time I was unable to find an exit wound was when I shot the deer lengthwise.

up hill shot, the deer was facing me with its head down. The neck was pulvirized along about 10" of bone the bullet then traveled down through the sholder breaking bone and ended up under the hide, usually wait for a better shot but i had watched this deer feed for about 45 min, and it was raining and started to get foggy.

That was a great shot. It also explains why you were able to recover this bullet.
