Gents!
I have loaded winchester brass to the .22 hornet, and after the first reload some cases are loose in the primer pockets, and some other show a crack around 1/4" from the base.
Loads used were from 11,8gn lil´gun to 12,7gn lil´gun. Listed max is 13gn and that does not show any pressure signs when tested previously. Out of 100 loaded cases ca 10 are suspect/strange, and the rest show no signs of high, low or abnorm pressures, nor are there any big changes in poi. The abnorm cases are found in all different powder weights. Bullet is S&B 45gn fmj. Oal 43 mm to fit magazine.

Have anyone had similar problems with winchester brass recently?

Sincerely
Daniel

I use Rem brass for my two Hornets, and Win for my pair of 257 Roberts rifles. Have loaded the 257 brass several times with no primer pocket enlarging problems. My son use Win brass for his 223 AR 15 Match rifles with no problems.

On the bag I now use I have the above problems, but 2 earlier bags of the same brand have worked perfect. In those I have reloaded some cases 10 times without any problems. So it seems to me that this particular newly opened bag of cases had some quality issues since no other cases display this behaviour...

I bought WW .375 brass long ago and every rim was a different thickness, so bad some would not chamber. That was my last time.

I bought some WW 22 Hornet Brass about 10 years ago in bulk and it was very good .I still have about 200 unused rounds . I have been using Rem as well and it seems to be good.

I quit using WW brass all together for any caliber . It really started going down hill a few years back . archer

One thing to remember just because it's listed in a manual doesn't always mean it's the MAX in everyone else's gun !.

Case in point ( I sold my 22 hornet ) a friend has tried EVERYTHING known to mankind in trying to get his to group under 1 MOA X 100Yd. .
For what ever reason lil´gun did exactly what your describing with terrible grouping he didn't exceed 11 grains !. His brass wasn't WW either !!.
I sold mine off because it was pathetic for accuracy . I was also UNABLE to get repeatability . Different Rifle manufactures to boot !. We have a 3 Rd. mutual friend who purchased mine in addition to owning his own which doesn't shoot well either .

So It's like baseball with the 22 hornet for me . 3 Strikes and it's out , in other words history !.

Shoot Straight Know Your Target . ... salute
