I've had the idea for quite some time but in all my life I've never loaded or shot any substantially reduced loads.
The other day I looked on the Hodgdons website at the Youth reduced load section and decided I'd load up some for my 12 year old sons .284 flatbolt Ruger. I must admit I was so nervous to touch off that first one that you'd have thought I had a double powder charge in it but I was really surprised at the mild recoil and accuracy. Pleasant to shoot.
The other day I loaded him some more in 120 and 130 grain bullets using 36 grains of H4895. We should have time to shoot these on Thanksgiving.
For any of you out there with young or small shooters do them a favor and look at those reduced loads.

I too have used reduced loads for young hunters/shooters. The results have been pleasant and successful.

I highly recommend it. clap

When I was a punk kid my dad loaded my .308 down to 30-30 ballistics and it worked perfectly on deer.

Not reduced a whole lot but just used starting loads on a 300 win mag. Had 165's doing 2835 for our wis whitetails...plenty of speed with an interbond and accurate.
