What is the proper bullet diameter for .40-65 Winchester? | ||

Accurate's #1 loading guide shows it to be .403" (nominal). | |||

Hey Pedestal, I sent you an email with a diagram of the bullet case and stated that I have seen lead bullets form .403 to .409 advertised for this cartridge. You may want to check with a bbs's that is dedicated to black powder issues. Good Shooting, Smoker* | |||

Original Winchester 40/65 bore is .403 I have a Pedersoli Sharps which uses a .408. | |||

Thanks all, I was looking at the Wind River bbls in Brownells, and they are showing a groove dia. of .408. So I guess that's the "modern" version.. | |||

Original groove diameters of the .40-65 rifles was 0.408"...however the original ammo was loaded with a 0.406" bullet. | |||

My 1886 shoots the .408 very well. Does anyone know what is used in the ammo available from the Old Western Scrounger> thanks Frank | |||
