Anyone have any educated guess what my load for my 44mags is running velocity-wise? Load is R.P cases stuffed with 8.5 grains of the old Unique using Winchester WLP primers and a 240grain SWC lead bullet.

I use this load in different 44mag revolvers from 3 inch barrels to 8+ inch barrels.

Thanks,

Probably 800-900 fps based on data from Alliant and my old Lyman guide

Commercial cast 240's over 8.5 gr Unique (old Hercules) run 910 fps out of my 4" Colt Anaconda and 1010 fps out of my 6 1/2" Ruger 50th Anniversary BH. This was with R-P cases and WLP primers. Chronograph was Oehhler M35P with start screen at 10'.

My M629-4 has very tight throats, and velocities out of it are a bit higher than other 44 Mags.

This load was very accurate and quite powerful.
