Elliot, The powder that most often in most rifles gives the combination of highest velocity and accuracy is Reloader 15, especially if you don't like heavily compressed loads. Varget and can also give very good accuracy and velocity but can also be very fussy or erratic for accuracy. If you are happy with loads that basically duplicate factory ballistics (actual) IMR 4064 generally gives good accuracy results with about 68 grains for 300s and 71 grains for 270s. In my experience it is rare for an accurate 375 not to give very good accuracy with 78 grains of 760 and 300 Hornady round nose and also 300 Sierra boat tails. In fact for me, a 375 that won't shoot well with these loadsmakes me immediately suspect a rifle, scopeor mount problem. Like all calibers of course, each rifle is an individual, but the above seems to be generally the case when used across a large number of rifles. Mike

The best powder for the 375 H&H is undoubtedly H 4350 (not IMR 4350). Get Hodgdon's loading booklet for their listed max loads. The max loads for this powder will be compressed, but so what? Also, you'll get better accuracy with the WLR (non-magnum) primer than with the magnum one, and you'll have no ignition problems with this powder. I found the Speer 270 gr. boattail and the Sierra 300 gr. boattail to be very accurate bullets. Premium hunting bullets may not be quite as accurate. IMR 4064 and Varget will give OK results (frequently excellent accuracy) with the 270 gr bullet, but you will sacrifice some velocity. If you use those powders for the 300 gr. bullet you will sacrifice a lot of velocity, compared to what you can get with H 4350.

I use RL-15 exclusively...I don't use compressed loads in a DGR, for several reasons but mostly because compaction has been the beast of Africa and has caused many a PH a good stomping, especially in the 458. It can also push bullets forward in time and in heat and that can cause jams. Pretty common knowledge across the pond. ------------------

Thanks for the info, I will start with RL-15 I can always use it in my 35 Whelen improved if it turns out to not be the thing for my 375.

Very good suggestions so far. One more is Re `15 76 gr and Swift A-Frame 270 gr bullet. It is a bit warm by some manuals so work up to it. IMR 4350 and Varget gave me good results. Good luck. "D"
