Mystery Wild Cat??

The other night, I went thru the brass I picked up at the local shooting range and came accross a 7.62 X 39 case that had been cut off, or trimed if you like, at the beginning of the shoulder, leaving a straight walled cartridge case. It had been fired, the primer was dented. What kind of wild cat cartridge would this be? A monster pistol cart. or a thompson Contender? Any ideas?

Maybe it was a case seperation at the beginning of the neck?
Or was it clean like a trimmed case?

The edges of the brass were slightly powder marked, just like normal fired brass. Also this case was definately cut off at the the beginning of the shoulder, I measured it agginst some 7.62 X 39 cases I save to trade with a friend.

ACCIDENTAL CREATION:

I have had just such separations at the base of the shoulder in 257 Roberts Ackley Improved.

If on trys to form 6mm PPC from 7.62x39 and then fire form the steep shoulder, one could get the same separations.

INTELLIGENT CREATION:
Someone is making some kind of .338 Whisper.

One clue as to which one it is, is to look at the mouth and see if it is trimmed and chamfered or ragged.

Maybe the 7.62 bullet was stuck to the case, and the case neck went down the bore with the bullet.

Ivan, I thought about the Automag as well, but the 308 case and 7.62 Russian case are very different looking. I'm curious to find out what it turns out to be.

You know, I am beginning to think that you guys talking about separation are correct. From what I can see inside the case with a strong lite, there are no bullet marks that there would be if a bullet had been seated and then fired. So for me, is there a big problem in removing the pieces from the chamber?

Well as for the leftover piece in the chamber I've never experienced one but I hear that some fall right out and some you have to take a stuck case remover after them to get'em out.
