Ordering some powder for a new .223. Have never reloaded this caliber before. What is the cleanest buring/most accurate powder? Benchmark is $20 more per 8lb container, is it worth it?

Question:
Best 223 powder for 40gr bullets?

Choices:
Benchmark
TAC

Either one is a good choice....

as far as cleaner burning... get yourself a bore snake for $15.00 or so, and in the field, it takes 2 seconds to have a clean bore again...

As I say often, it is harder to find a BAD Powder for the 223, than it is to find one that will work exceedingly well...

I would also look at RL-7 for the .223

I can`t speak about TAC but I have been very pleased with Benchmark in my 223 with 50-55 gr bullets.

Hey Derek, First off, Welcome Aboard!

There is only one way to know what will be the most accurate in your rifle, and that is for you to try the Powders.

It is a valid question and worth asking, especially on this Board with a lot of folks using 223Rems. I agree with Seafire, that it is hard to find a BAD Powder for the 223Rem. Lots of Powders work very well in this excellently Designed, well balanced cartridge.

But, the "Best" for your rifle can only be determined by you.

Best of luck to you.
