Hi friends
I'm loading for a new Weatherby Mark V and see that is relly dificult to get the velocity and precision everybody reachas.
Primaryly I use Rel 22 because have some of them .
What I have reach is 3060 -3080 fps with Nosler Partition 180 gr or rws 180 gr Tug with a decent accuracy Imr 7828 85 gr.
When I move to the 165 gr area I use Sierra 165 HPBT and 85.7 gr of the rel 22 to obtain a decent velocity of 3180 fps and an accuracy of 1" at 100 mt.
Well this is the situation.
Is that o´kay and my rifle is a slow one or I have to stay on trying?
Thanks to all

Take the information of everyone's achievements with a grain of salt.....it may r may not be true! IMO you're getting just about what everyone else is!

IMO you're doing just fine and "everyone else" isn't doing much or any better

There are very good performances from a .300 Weatherby!

One thing that I've done with the 2 Weatherbys I own was to chrono factory ammo as well. I have been getting factory stated velocities from both so when I went to handloads I had a comparative baseline. So far I have had no problems reaching factory ammo velocities and haven't seen any pressure signs. One is pretty much a max load and the other is a bit under max while both reach factory ammo velocities. Good accuracy from both at that level. Seems Weatherby stuff likes to be loaded stout.

That's about what you should be getting with IMR4350 and within 75 fps or so of what Nosler says you'd be getting with RL22. That bullet and velocity ought to kill anything needs killing with a .30 cal.

That's more velocity, but that bullet may not be up to the task at close ranges.

Since you said this is a new Mk V I'll assume that you have a 26" barrel. If that is the case I think that those velocity figures are on the low side. BUT!, who knows as each rifle is an individual unto itself. Weatherby factory 180 grain partitions average at about 3240 fps out of the two .300 Wby's I have. Factory 200 grain Partitions average about 3070 out of my rifles. I've never spent much time with RL 22 in the .300 Wby but have been able to duplicate those figures with 7828 and H1000. For about the past eight years H1000 is the only powedr I've run due to it giving hands down better accuracy at three and four hundred yards from my rifles.

The only load I shoot anymore is a 200 grain partition that runs at 3025 fps out of my rifles with Federal nickel brass and CCI 250 primers. As to your RWS TUG bullets I have no idea how they should beahve as I've never run them.

Try some Norma MRP with norma's data for 165 and 180 grain bullets. Lot's of folks say R22 is the same as MRP but I have found MRP more consistant and not as peaky. You should get over 3200fps with 180 gr and over 3300fps maybe even 3400fps with 165 gr and MRP. Been doing this for many years with Norma or Weatherby brass and fed 215 primers and MRP.

My 300 Win mag is getting a 180g bullet out at 3050 fps from a 26 inch barrel. My loads are on the higher pressure end but have produced excellent accuracy with the Nosler BT and Accubonds. I would think that a Weatherby should be producing somewhat higher velocities but who knows?

As stated each rifle is different and produces different non comparative performance. I've seen 2 rifles in 22-250 with a 22" barrel out shoot a 26" barrel with the same load.

Here's what I use, never chronographed, because accurracy was awesome and didn't want to get depressed if it wasn't fast enough:
300 WTHBY MAG IMR7828 84g HORNADY 180 INTRLCK SP WLR MAG RP cut2.815 oal3.560. Shoot .5 inch 3 shot groups if I do my part. This is a Weatherby Vanguard from Walmart, I must have gotten a good barrel. I understand your dilema, I just got a 223 and when I get the velocity up the groups open up, maybe we just need to slow down sometimes. I'm starting to think if accuracy is great leave the speed alone, just my 2 cents and I should take my own advice with my 223.

Thank you very much to all of you.
Usually I don,t take care very much about the velocity if I have good precision .
But I bought this rifle in an oportunity and think in a very long range shooter for the south of Argentina , a mountain area where usually you shoot from 300 mts and up to hogs and red stag.
gain thanks for your time
