bartscheDown loading the 6.5 R-Bar
This down load testing was to near duplicate or reduce factory energy levels of the 30-30; thinking of the performance of the 6.5 Carcano.

WinkThe cases were made from .243 Winchester brass, primers were WLR, bullet was the sp bt 139grain PRVI, OAL=2.950". 20 to 35 mph wind all day. All powder seemed to burn.
42.2 grains H4831, mild but sooty , 2316 to 2359 fps. fair accuracy.
32 grains XMR4064, mild some soot, 2144 to 2191 fps. deadly out to 200 yds.
31 grains H4895, mild some soot, 2156 to 2178 fps. 5 shot 1.000" group at 50 yds.
31 grains IMR 4895, mild some soot. 2148 to 2213 fps 5 shot 1.000" group at 50 yds.

tu2It would appear that this down loading went well.

What is a 6.5 R-Bar?

It's a 6.5 necked down from a .308 case or necked up .243, 26.5degree shoulder, somewhat blown out , and a .350" long neck Max case length is 2.040". The rifle is deep throated to facilitate seating heavy bullets out far enough so they don,t infringe on the powder room. If you send me an E-Mail address I'll send you a foto.
