Hi all,

when do most of you take a case out of active duty? If there is nothing obvious, can it be loaded until the neck splits or the primer pocket loosens up. I am loading for the Rem. 7mm-08 and rem. 6mm. some of the cases have been reloaded 5-8 times.whats the rule of thumb about saftey regarding this issue?

I use them until the necks split. Back in the days of hotter is better I would discard when primer pockets got loose. With the lighter (more accurate) loads I,m shooting now the cases split eventually.

It depends on the cartridge. For mild-loaded rounds like my 357 Mag and 6.5x55, they are thrown out when the neck splits. I don't know how many loadings this is, but it is a lot. For my hotter rounds like 300 and 460 Wby, the first time that the shell does not eject smoothly. This happens around the 8-10th loading. My magnum rounds get weak not at the neck, but towards the base. Rather than push them until the shell splits or worse, the case separates, I throw them out at the very first sign of trouble.
