to loading accurate Nosler Partitions??? bewildered

I just got done with a buddies 338.
Using 225's over RE19 and the best we could get was LARGE groups.
By large I mean nothing under 4" @ 200 yards.

I have always had trouble getting them to group decent.

I have tried them in 243 and 7mmRM and have not had the best of luck.

Today was a hair puller.

Just so you all know, I have been at this reloading thing a while and do pretty good with most of them bullits, just not these fellars.

It there a certain aroma I should have in the reloading room?
Am I holding my tounge wrong?
Are the planets aligned to get me???

Thanks folks!!!

I have heard many times that they are not that accurate. At least not like the Ballistic Tip.

NP's are more noted for what they do on game not what they do on paper.
As a rule, you have to give away some accuracy when you switch from your target bullet to a game bullet of any sort. You cherish the exceptions and learn to live with the rules. Hunting with a .338, sub 2MOA should get you where you want to go. If you don't feel comfortable trying a 600 or greater yard shot with it, get closer. Big Grin

I don't know. They shoot great in 375 H&H but terrible in my 7 Mag.

I have used the 180gr BT's and Partitions in my 30-338 and find that I lose about a half-inch in accuracy at 100yds with Partitions where BT's are shooting 3/4" groups.

If I might suggest; I'd get BT's in several weights and do my load development with those, then switch to Partitions. Find a bullet weight and powder combo your rifle likes using OAL from Lyman or Sierra's manual. Then experiment with seating depth. When you have a BT load, switch to Partitions. This has worked for me and it saves money.

With 375HH, I found that using magnum primers blew my groups. I used standard WW and they dropped by nearly 50%.

Hope that helps. Kudude

I agree. They have been great on game in the area of penetration but lousy on paper for me. If the shots can be kept under 175 yards things seem to work out ok.

My personal experience with the infamous Nosler Partition is that accuracy is spotty.....sometimes great and sometime not so great. They aren't at all like the ballistic Tips in this regard.

While most of the world touts the performance on game, it's been my finding that they often shed the lead in the front partition.....and yes they killed the animal or I'd not have found the bullet!!! That said, I'm not a fan of these and much prefer to pay a bit more for the A-Frames that do shoot well and have always performed well for me.

For optimum performance on larger game, I usually try TSX's, Swift A-Frames, Partitions and Accubonds, then select the one that is most accurate. It sure varies a lot with the rifle. My 375 loves TSX's, not so hot with Swifts, for example.
