I HAVE CONFLICTING DATA FROM THREE DIFFRENT
MANUALS ON MAX LOADS USEING RL22 WITH 165GRAIN
BULLET.SO FAR I HAVENT WENT OVER 79GN RL22,PUTS
ME JUST UNDER 3200FPS WITH NO SIGNS OF PRESSURE.
THIS IS A MAX LOAD FOR ONE MANUAL.AS ONE WHO HAS
NEVER WENT ABOVE PRINTED NUMBERS,I THINK IAM ABOUT TO TRY.THIS FORUM SHOWS A LOAD IN THEIR
TEST RIFLE THAT GETS 3300 FPS WITH 83GN RL22
AND 165 BULLET.HAS ANY ONE HAVE INFO THAT MIGHT HELP?

I worked up a few loads to day,got 3293fps with79.3gn Rl22 165 horandy btsp.0.367 for best
three shot group, worst was 0.704 .
All though i have laped the reciver,squared the action,pillar beded the action,3lb trigger not
bad for a factory barrel

I have loaded this combination for several years and our results are similar.

M70 Deluxe .300 Win Mag, 24" barrel (post-64). 78.0 grains Reloader 22, CCI-250, R-P once fired case, Hornady 165 grain BTSP - Lot #96-045. On 7/31/01 at 85 degrees F, Beta Chrony at 10' from the muzzle, I averaged 3165 fps. Same day, same components except for Hornady 165 Gr BTSP, Lot #95-316, I averaged 3256 fps.

M70 SuperGrade .300 Win Mag, 26" barrel (Classic). All components same except for Hornady once fired cases; bullet was lot #96-045. On 5/24/02 at 80 degrees F, F-1 Master Chrony at 18 feet from muzzle, I averaged 3129 fps.

My source for the data was the Hornady #5 Manual, page 383. Starting load is 66.9 grains (2700 fps), maximum load is 79.1 grain (3200 fps). Alliant publishes a maximum load of 79.4 grains of Reloader 22 using the Speer 165 grain Spitzer.
