Does anyone have any experience with the following combo:.300 Win.mag.,Lapua brass,Fed.GM215m primer,180 gr. Nosler Partition Spitzer,H-1000 powder?I shot this load yesterday at 50 degrees from a 25" Hart barrel.Velocity averaged 3070 fps.,ES 17 fps.,SD 9 fps.Accuracy was in the .5's.
Any opinions?Would this be considered a good all around load for hogs and whitetails or what ever?

I did a lot of work with the H1000 when comparing to RL22. I was shooting the 200 gr bullets. The H1000 did not quite deliver as well as the RL22 in my rifle.

It seems H1000 is on the barrel burning side of things also

A slow burner like H1000 should be better with the heavier bullets. IMO, if RL22 works in both the 180 and 200 gr bullets then a better powder for the 180 might be found in a faster powder like RL19, H4831 or IMR4831.

My experience with H1000 was disappointing. I found that it not only changes position on the burning chart in different cartridges, it burns faster in general, than indicated by its placing on the burn chart. The final coffin nail IMO is that it neither produced the hoped for velocities, nor the accuracy. I haven't used H1000 in over a decade, and I'm in no hurry to run out and get more. IMR 7828 will do anything H1000 should, and it will do it better.

My 300 shoots 200 gr or 180's great with H 1000, RL 22 is faster though. But the H 1000 groups are in the .6's and below.

Hey Jim, It will be absolutely amazing if you can find a "better" Hunting Load.

I'd also have a Practice Load using a less expensive Bullet for the "what ever", but you do have a winner. Over the years I might have used 4-8# jugs of H1000 and prefer it for my Magnums.

Good hunting and clean 1-shot kills.

Somewhere I read that 81 of H1000 under a 180 had worked good for someone and I tried it in my gun. It shot really great with accubonds and real decent with some other 180 grain bullets. Vel for my 24" savage and 180s ranges from 3025-3125 depending on the bullet.
If I was getting the reslults you got I wouldn't be asking if it was a good combo....I'd be bragging!!!

My .300 liked H1000 with 180 grain Partitions. Got about the same velocity you state, and accuracy was in the 5/8-3/4" range. Nice combination.

I run H 1000 almost exclusively in my 300 Win Mag, when using the slower powders...

I use 4895, 4064 etc for slower loads....

But when I want it to perform as a Magnum!.. then I use H 1000...

I load 84 grains with the 180 grain Bullets and 83 grains with the 200 and 220 grain bullets...

The 83 grains is a hot load with the 220s... so either don't try or at least work up.. velocity is 2975 or so... over 2950, but won't break 3000 fps...

They have all proven to be very accurate in my Browning 300 Mag...
