25-06 75gr. V-MAX Pet Loads?

I want to shoot the above mentioned bullet (75 grain hornady V-Max) exclusively in my new sendero which will fill the niche in my cabinet as the long range ratrifle. Please excuse my ignorance but I have limited experince loading for the quarterbore. I have read that H4831 is so ideal for the 25-06 that you can't go wrong. Since a 75 grain projectile is at the far end (light) of the bullet weight spectrum I was thinking that a faster powder would be more appropriate. Something along the lines of H4350 or the like. My goal is to break the 3850 FPS barrier and still retain excellent accuracy out of the Sendero's 26" barrel. Can anyone offer me some data and realistic expectations for the above mentioned load?

I got my best accuracy with the 75 Sierra and A-2700 with IMR-4350 right there with it.seems like 3725 was as far as I got.

The one I just finished building shoots 58 grains ofH4831sc behind the 75V-Max using CCI 250 primer into the .2's and .3's all day long! Haven't chronographed it yet. It is below maximum though! Tried 60 and 62 grains but weren't as accurate as the 58 grain load. Very very very destructive on groundhogs!!! GHD

I use H4831 for all bullet weights in my 25-06.
I am getting 3750 with the 75 grain v-max. I usually get three shot groups appx. .60 to .70

This is from a 24" barrel and is not a max load so you could probably get to 3850 with this powder from your 26" barrel. If I remember I will check my data at lunch and get the grains for that load.

I tried faster powders and the H4831 just performed better.

Well, just yesterday I tried the 75 grain V-Max in my 25-06 for the first time. I tried various loads of H 4350 and IMR 4831.

The best thing I tried was 57 grains of IMR 4831 for a velocity of 3570 fps and a group of 0.53 inches.

In your 26 inch barrel you should get a little more speed, but I am not sure if you will get to 3850 fps. My dad uses 59 grains of IMR 4831 behind moly coated 75 grain V-max bullets and gets 3700 fps. But then, he has a 24 inch barrel, as do I.

Ok here is the data from my load book.
59gr H4831
3687fps from 24" barrel that would be appx. 3730 with 26" barrel.
Avg. group size .70

58gr IMR4831
3568fps 24" barrel would be appx. 3620 with 26" barrel.
Avg. group size .78

Neither of these loads with the 75gr v-max was max in my Ruger Mark II 25-06 rifle, just didn't see any reason to go higher.

a-2700 is almost exact burn rate as 4064 and meters much better and burns cleaner.its a powder you dont hear alot about but is a super performer in the 4895 to RL15 burn rate.

How deep are you folks seating the VMax and Sierra 75s?

Orland I'm guessing you are using this load on ground hogs. What is the terminal performance in the hay meadows?

My load is
Rem. case
Sierra 75 gr HP
50.5 gr of IMR 4064
Fed. 210
OAL 3.055 (savage 110)
This is my favorite load for groundhogs. You will find plenty of g-hog parts scattered with this combination.

BTW where are you located in WV? I'm in greenbrier co.

Right off 60 and in fayette before the big bridge road. [Big Grin]

Thanks for the load info. I loaded some 270 Sierra 90gr. with the 4064 last year and was suprized at the group size out of a stock ADL.

Shooting 85gr. NBTs and 87 gr. TNTs through the .25-06. Marginal accuracy in the light barreled Mtn. rifle, but it will kill and gives some good practice with my main deer rifle.
