I just picked up an 1885 Win in .225 and I'm looking for starting loads. I've been looking in my books but thought someone here might save me some time.

I tried a search but only got 225 gr loads for a 338. Not much help.

I have a bunch of 50gr BT hollow pt speer bullets. Quite a bit of BL C2 powder. Some 4895. A lot of CCI primers. Anyone have a load using something like that?

Hodgdon's site has data for BL-C2 in the .225 Win, including a 50 gn bullet, and other weights.

I have a md 70 in 225 I have tried several different powders 4064 BL-c2 4895 4320 but the best I have used in my gun is H-380, 35.3 grs with a Nosler 50gr BT VG speed 3310 and accuracy is outstanding, this load is not max.

I do have a little bit of H380 in a can but it's old. If it still looks good, I'll give that a try also.

Hornady has covered that cartridge atleast as recently as their 4th edition handbook (I don't know about their current edition)

As per their 4th edition

With 50gr bullets looks like
IMR3031 max 32.7gr
IMR4064 max 34.5gr
H4895 max 34.8gr
all give 3800fps

with 52/53gr bullets
H4895 max 34.2gr
IMR4064 max 33.7gr
IMR4320 max 35.1gr
all give 3700fps

with 55gr bullets
IMR4064 max 33.7gr
H4895 max 34.2gr
IMR4064 max 35.1gr
give 3700fps

Reduce 10% and work up for any of those should get you where you want to be.

Dozer2; I'd strongly recommend that you try the BLC2, especially since you have a good supply on hand. I burned many pounds of it in the 225 Win and was very satisfied with the results, although this was 35 years ago and pre-chronograph for me, but accuracy was good enough that I added a footnote in my Speer #8 manual. As with many ball powders it usually performs best with near max loads, this is where the novice reloader runs into problems, trying to make it perform like single base extruded powder. If you are interested pm me,I have published data in Speer, Hornady and Hodgdons manuals, I most certainly would try it!

I had a Savage 340, in .225, I also had good luck with Blc2 and nosler 55gr NBT, worth a try

Thanks for the replies. I borrowed 3 older books and have most of whats been posted. Made copies of the pages and returned the books. I just put the scope on last weekend and will work on getting some loads for the coming weekend to try it out.

The newest Nosler manual, #6, has loading data for the 225winchester.
