Hello Everyone:

I have been out of reloading for a long time. My Father shared his wisdom of reloading back amny moons ago. I am getting back into it and my question is about die's. I have a Dillon press (RL450) with some RCBS die's and have been surfing the web for some new one for the cal. I now shoot Taurus P-140 40S&W. Any and all suggestion welcome

Dillon only makes progressive presses and their dies are made for use in their presses. RCBS dies are made for single stage presses. You'll find the Dillon dies work much better when pumping the handle, spitting out those 40 auto rounds. It really is a no brainer. I've used Dillon presses and dies for more than 10 years, so I'm definitely biased in their favor.

taurus40,
i upgraded my 20 year old 450 upgraded to 550 specs except for the removable tool head...i balked at sending it in to avoid downtime, but it seems others (hornady, for one) feel that 550s are weaker and less precise than the earlier design due to the "flex" resulting from the conversion.

as to dies, dillon's are probably fantastic, but, because i already have them, i use rcbs, lyman and lee, with no modification beyond steel, hexagonal lock rings. i don't mind swapping dies out one-at-a-time in my "almost" 550.

enjoy the taurus...good guns

The difference in dies is, Dillon and Redding have a taper into the FLRS die in some calibers like straight walled pistols. This helps the case get started into the die. My RL450 with RCBS dies has an alignment problem using carbide 45acp, its hit and miss.
