What size is the thread in the Stoney Point OAL guage? In other words what size drill and tap do I need? I have one .223 that a bought but I have several other calibers I would like to check. The price for each individual shell for each caliber I own would get kinda spendy.

It's a proprietary TPI. If you do a search you may find it here in an AR discussion. They'll sell you the tap if you want... it's spendy too.

Brian

They are a 5/16ths by 36 tap
A special order for most shops but are available from any jobber. As was mentioned they are a little expensive, but not out of reach.

Search on E-bay-- a guy was offering kits (obviously the correct TPI tap) for making your own. If I remember it wasn't that expensive. They show up about every other week....

Denny, I feel your pain! I at one time was thinking the same thing, especially since I had access to a lathe. Once I thought about it a little I decided to continue to buy them.
This is one of the ways Stoney Point continues to make money and keep people employed. It may seem trivial but thats my story and I am sticking to it.
