Does anyone have an RCBS Electronic Trickler?

I purchased one on eBay that was supposed to be "new in box." I can tell it has never been used, but now I am worried it was a factory reject because of some markings on it.

One thing I can't check is whether the IfraRed port for communicating with the RCBS Pro Scale is functional. I won't have that scale until late January.

If anyone has one, can you look at it and tell me if you can see the IFR eye? That is, if you look in the whole for the IFR, do you see a little black opaque eye, or do you just see green plastic?

It might turn out to be one of those deals that really was too good to be true.

Thanks

Best I recall the IR port(s) use the same wavelength IR Led as do the TV remote controls. Which is to say that it is outside the range of visible light for humans.

If you own a night vision scope you MAY be able to see a dull glow from the led (IR port) when the trickler is powered up.

Good luck, hope you found a deal!

I have the RCBS dispensor/trickler and when it is communicating and in line with the IR port on the scale a light on the dispensor lights up to let you know they are in line with each other, move it to the side and the light goes out, that is how you tell they are connected via the IR ports. The scale is the one that has to initiate the connection in it's menu. You'll understand it more when you look at the manual for the scale. [Smile] They work nice. The scale NEEDS to be warmed up/plugged in for thirty minutes before calibration will be stable just so you know.

Since we're on the subject of the RCBS electronic trickler, can they be used to throw a light charge from a conventional powder dispenser and top it off on their own?

If you look on the trickler, does it have a black translucent plastic IFR eye, or does it just appear to be a hole?

The issue is that I think mine is missing the eye, and I don't have the scale to test it.

Thanks,
TGR

Yes you can throw a "light charge" and use the powder dispenser to bring it up to weight .

In fact I feel this is the best way to use this setup.

TGR, The eye is back inside the hole. I never have even looked up in there, but the holes have to be aligned between the two. There is a LED light on my dispensor and next to it says SCALE, this is blinking when either the two are not lined up or the scale has not been told to send a signal to the dispensor yet, once you tell it to communicate and then the two are lined up fairly close the LED stays lit and stops blinking. I wouldn't worry it should work fine when you get the scale.

Either one will dispense manually by holding the DISPENSE button down.

The benifit of using one in conjunction with the scale is that after the dispensor/trickler is calibrated with a given powder, the scale knows the rate of speed the powder is dispensed and tells the trickler to shut off based on the anticipated time it will reach the weight entered in, and therefore does it much faster and then stops on a dime before the scale even displays the target weight.

Where did you see them for $69? I have seen them for $120-$150, but picked up this one on eBay for $89.

TexasGunRunner, GRAF & SONS Inc. has them for $69.95. 800-531-2666 or online at www.grafs.com. They are listed as being closed out. I take that to mean they must be discontinuing that model and coming out with something new.
