45acp big bullet reload question

I have an interior ballistics question to as of those who are smarter than I… I am 80% done with my new project gun a TC 45ACP 18â€bbl suppressed, the bbl is ported at the 10†point. My Question, I plan to shoot 300 gr jhp and 335gr lsw.gc at 1000 fps . I have a very limited powder column with the bullets seated 10gr of water , or 11gr reloader no.7 uncompressed, I am going to start to use win NT cases (sm. Pri magnum) if need be I can cut rifle cases and ream but I don’t want it to come to that. I think I will need to stay with a pistol powder because of the limited space but pressure problems should be helped by the 1†fully supported TC bbl. and the small primer case. By my limited calculations I come up with 8gr No7 under a 300gr jhp for 700 fps. Can anyone shed some light with experience loading heavy bullets or a ballistic program? Thanks

I can`t offer any help with loads but just out of curiosity why port a 18" barrel at the 10" mark if top velocities are desired? This effectivly cuts your barrel lenght by quite a bit.

If it is suppressed qualities you are after, why the 1000f/s quest? I would think that 650f/s would be the benchmark one should shoot for, and Unique would be my first choice. My .45 ACP experience has taught me that 10.2 grains of Blue Dot will yield 1000+f/s with 200 grain JHP bullets, and muzzle blast. Also, Unique offers the best pressure to velocity ratio in that small case, so I'd start there.

The 1000 fps is just a rough benchmark I can fine tune from there, the speed of sound being variable depending largely on temperature (30deg F = 1085fps, 70deg F =1129fps, 100deg F =1163fps), unique is too dirty for me and I fear to fast for this application but thanks for the recommendation keep um coming.

Agent 141,

May I ask why you ported a barrel that is suppressed?

Just curious as it seems it may defeat the purpose.

Sure you can ask, the bbl is ported inside the can due to can design, it's a 50 cal can off another gun I am just geting more use out of it.

Thanks for clearing that up, now I see.

Makes sense to use the can for several different firearms. Less permits=Less hassle Big Grin
