Has anyone tried Nosler's new custom brass? I usually use Federal, but want to buy some unfired brass to load for an upcoming hunt.

Currently, my Pre-64 M70 Fwt. 30-06 will shoot 1/2" groups when loaded with:

180 grain TSX
Federal Brass
Federal Match Primers
61 grains RL22

Velocity is approx. 2,750 fps (chronographed) out of the 22" barrel.

How much risk is there that the accuracy of this load might change due to changing brass?

Thanks.

Tim

I've been buying the nosler blem brass right direct from noslers proshop but....they don't ever seem to offer the '06's on the blem sale. I love the brass...ready to load in every way.
Personlly I don't think your accuracy is coming from your brass....it's coming from a bullet/powder charge that your gun loves. I would say virtually any brass should work for you. I've also enjoyed brass from Natches shooters supply...they have primed federal brass in bags of 50 real reasonable....I'm thinking about $11/bag for the '06. That stuff has been real consistant and shows up in very good condition for my purposes.

"Nosler Custom" sort of an oxymoron don't you think.

I agree with Bob. If you are getting 1/2" groups from Federal, why would you want to change? But then I don't believe in paying high prices for any brass. I don't buy Lapua, or RWS, etc. I even make my 6.5-284 from good old Winchester brass and still get 1/2" groups regularly.

I saw a few pieces of the Nosler brass at the Shot Show and what I looked at was very uniform brass that appeared to be well made and what impressed me was the uniformity at the case mouth. I didn't measure the thickness at the case mouth but as I said it was very uniform. I intend to try some and determine if it is equal to or better than Lapua brass. I think Lapua is the best being made at this point. Just wish Lapua made a bigger variety of brass in more of the common calibers.
