can anyone shed any light on this, i approached sinclair international with the view to getting a wilson case holder to trim a 30.06 ackley fired case and a 7mm08 ackley fired case, they tell me the same case holder will do both, is this true?

await any help
thanks

They do have a different part number but looking at the dimensions of the cases near the rim I don't see why the same one would not work for both. They have diffennt numbers for a 7mm08 fired and 7mm08 new but I trim new 7mm08s in the fired holder just fine.

If Ackley used the same taper per inch they will work. I have found some pretty unusual matches.
The .284 Win and the .45/70 come to mind.

Take the head dia minus the shoulder dia divided by the length from the head to the shoulder for each case. That will give you the body taper in thousandths per inch of length.
I will calculate it for you if you give me the numbers from your sized brass.

What ireload states is undoubtedly true, that is the perfect explanation for a perfect fit. On a more pragmatic note, I would claim that even a less than perfect fit is fine. The Wilson shell holder does nothing but firmly secure the case during trimming. The actual position of the case in the shell holder (as long as the case neck sticks out one end, and the case head the other), is largely irrelevant. Even if an improved case is fixed by the shell holder in a position slightly different to the regular case (differences in taper), as long as it is indeed securely held, you should be fine. Try it and see...

Yep,
Just requires a little bigger whack with your plastic faced hammer.
