I am looking a 22 caliber pistols . The 3 I am considering are the Ruger Gov't , Browning Buckmark Target , and S&W 22s w/7" bbl. I dont know much about any of these . I understand the trigger on the buckmark and S&W are better than the Ruger . Any thoughts or comments? Thanks.

I would get the Ruger for the availability of aftermarket goodies. Not a bad pistol stock either

No doubt in my mind, the Buckmark Target, outstanding trigger and almost as accurate as my S&W 41, and since the grip reminds me of a 1911, all the better, Buckmark good, Ruger, well it shoots I guess [Big Grin] Just kidding, Browning target is my choice. Jay

Jim, Now when your talking about the S&W, are we talking about the model 41, if so, although it's expensive, that might be the one to get, almost 300 more than a Buckmark Target(Gold model), got them both, loved equally. Jay

Jay, The S&W I am looking at is the model 22S . I would love to have a 41 , but just cant bring myself to fork out that kind of money for a gun that my abilities will probably never match.Besides if I got the 41 then I could not blame the pistol [Smile]

The Browning is probably better out of the box but the Ruger can be turned into an extremely accurate pistol if you get the bug. As the other poster noted there are lots of goodies and some excellent 'smiths working on the Rugers. I had a Ruger for a while but it was traded long ago, my current stable of 22 autos includes a Beretta 76, Sig Trailside with long barrel and a 1948 vintage High Standard Military HD. The High Standard is far and away the best of the lot, I got a real bargain on mine but you should be able to find one for around $400-450, and they don't depreciate! The Sig is not a bad plinker but there is not much more you can do to it if you get into target shoting, the Beretta is quite good but the current pricing is about what you could get an excellent S&W 41 for.

If you plan on advancing in your .22 shooting, Maybe you should get a pistol that shoots better than you can today. [Wink]

The S&W 41 has the added feature of both a 5 and 7" barrel. I use my 5" when just "out and about" and the 7" when it's time to punch some paper. [Smile]

Whatever you choose, have a good time with it! [Big Grin]
