Reloader 15 is excellent in the 300 sav. I believe that Zeke will also confirm this. Its supposed to be only about 100 fs behind a 308 with a 165 grn bullet with that powder.
I just got a Chrony today and am hoping to try it out this weekend with a 300s and a 30-06. Ill let you know what I find.

In my 300, in a Model 110, I've only loaded 150's and 165's. Best results came with R15, Accurate 4064 and H or I 4895 and WLR primers in W-W brass. With 150 grainers, 40 4895, 42 4064, or 43 R15 gives around 2750 FPS and excellent accuracy. 1 to 1-1/2 grains less with 165's goes about 2680 - 2700.
These loads may be a little warm for a lever action, don't know what you have, but, in the 110, they've worked great.
Of the powders, 4064 has consistently given the best averages. Accurate's version is quite a bit shorter than IMR, so it meters better and you don't have to fight with compressing heavier loads.

The latest Handloader contains a Barsness piece that includes 300 savage data. He likes IMR or H4895 with the 150 Hornady for deer (says IMR is temp sensitive), RL15 with the 165 Nosler Partition for bigger things. He mentions the 125 Nosler BTip for varmints but I can't remember the propellant.
I am using 43grs of RL-15 under a 165gr Hornady Interlock. Speed is 2450fps. There is room for one more grain of powder if you use a drop tube. I stopped at 43 grains because I don't want to push a fine old rifle. Ken Waters wrote an excellent article about loading for 300 Savage in a M99 in Handloader #209 if you can find it.
(The usual disclaimer applies here. If you try this you are on your own!) I have also made 300 Savage cases from 308 just to see if it can be done. The reformed cases work just fine. Trim to 1.880", run through the 300 Savage FL sizer(slowly) and trim to 1.861". Feeds and shoots just fine and they don't stretch very much. Powder capacity is reduced in the reformed cases so reduce loads using RL-15 by two grains across the board.
Used to use alot of IMR4064 untill I tried W748. Velocity really came up over 4064, then tried RL=15 and was really surprised at the speed and acccuracy. It's the only powder that I use in 150gr. and heavier bullets. This is in a old Remington 722 with a well worn throat. Can't publish the charges because I'm loading close to 2.80 OAL.
Ive got some good accuracy from the 125 grn BTs with 43 grs of IMR 4895.
Just got back and I ended up with nearly the same 43 grs of rlr15 with a 165 grn bullet as the others. Velocity was 2600 + @ 42.5 grs. 43.5 began to show a little pressure. I played with some other bullets as well (180/2475 fs and 200 grs @ 2304 ) they all did well with the rlr15 except the 150 grn bullet, it showed no gains over the 165 at all. Your mileage may vary, but probably not much .
I have good luck with 48 grains of H414 and 150 grain ballistic tip. I'm shooting it in a Howa actioned, douglas barreled rifle. It shot that group in about .78 inch (four shots). I'm going to try it for deer this year.

I made up a bunch of loads for my 300 Savage in 125 and 150 grain bullets. Never got past the 125 grain in testing as it shot so well, I decided to quit looking for a better load. I shot this group with 125 grain Nosler BT's, and later shot the same powder/charge with 125 grain Speer TNT's. The Speer group was actually a better group as the first 2 shots went in the same hole at 100 yards, with the 3rd shot cutting the hole of the first 2. Was using a Weaver V-16 set at 16x for the Speer test.
Just out of curiosity, mine is a Rem. Mod.81, and I was figuring that 4895 would probably be the ticket for it and 150's, what do you all think?
I have about 50 cases and figured I would simply load something up that shot halfway decent and call it good. Then load all of the cases up clean the thing and stack it in the back of the case for the grandkids to have one day.
