I have been reading about reduced loads using IMR SR 4759. I would like to try some 120gr Nosler BTs and SR 4759 in my 13 year old son's 7MM-08 for paper punching . IMR's data list a 139gr load of 26.5gr of powder. Any ideas of what I should use for the 120s? Thanks

That load is the maximum load. Use the 50% formula for light bullets. So if the 7-08 holds 46 grs of regular powder then use 23 grs of 4759. Join the NRA

Steve, I am working with SR 4759 a lot developing info for reduced loads...IMR lists the maximum as 26.5 grains as stated... I don't know what kind of velocity you are looking for, but I have found in a 308 sized case, you can pretty much get by with up to 30 grains of SR 4759 in the case with any bullet weight.... Work up, but faster powders can be entirely different on how they act compared to mid to slow powders... I checked my load data books and I haven't gotten to that combo yet.... but if you are interested, drop me an email and I can work up the data fairly some for you... I do have info on using blue dot tho... If you are looking for a little faster velocity then use SR 4759.... Also not a bad powder is one step up and that is IMR 4198.... Cheers seafire

I use 24.0gr SR4759 and bulk 140gr. Remington bullets for my wife's 18" barrel Model 7. Chronos at 2450fps and recoils at 7.75 lb-ft in a 7.0lb rifle. Nice thing about this load is it hits within a couple of inches of full power hunting loads.
