Went out today with the load I developed with the VLD the way the Berger website described; With seating depth changes. I also tweeked the charge weight by .3 gr higher and it seemed to help just a tad. I developed the load to shoot steel out to 1000 yards. I printed the data from the JBM website and it usually is accurate. I of course chrono'd the load during development. The gun is a Browning A-Bolt Varmint Stalker with a Leupold 6-18 power VX-II with the LRVD. I put the Stoney Point add-on Target Knobs so I would be able to dial windage and elevation changes by hand. I was very pleased with everything; the data was right on. I shot steel out to 550 yard and paper at 600 and 760. I painted the steel with red dots on a white background. This was the first time I dialed windage. I had a touch of wind. About 10 to 15 from behind and quartering both ways R and L at times. You could watch the mirage and see which way it was going. I dialed for 5 mph wind on all of the targets. At the end of the session I fired 1 shot at each target, just like the game I am going to play next weekend. The yardages were 300, 425, 550, 600, 760, then back to 300 for the last shot. I centerpunched all the steel out to 550. I took these photos of the 600 yard target: And this one of the 760 yard target: The orange is the size of an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper. I was really happy and will dial windage from now on instead of just holding off and guessing! | ||
