Just a quick note to say hello. Joined up a couple of days ago. I shoot a 7mm-08, 222Rem, and hope to have a CZ 527 in 221 Fireball delivered to me soon. When I got the 7mm-08 if I wanted ammo, I needed to learn to reload, so I did. Got a pretty simple RCBS press and some dies. I found it to be better than factory and quite a bit of pleasure knowing my stuff was hand brewed...

Did similar to the 222 although I could find factory feed for it. I enjoyed the hand made stuff so well on the 7mm-08 that I just could not help myself.... Found there was a good bit more to this game than I had imagined! I was trying to find a low velocity load for the 222 Rem and a bullet that would not expand when passing through the brain case of a squirrel... Easier said than done! I quickly found that low loads in the 55 grain pills, were not stable, and I had a few of the bullets impact the ground some 30 feet in front of the bench! I finally gave up on that squirrel quest and went back to the 22 mag. FMJ's worked for me out to the 100yd range so I was OK with it, if not just a bit disappointed that I had made such a bad miscalculation...

Hence my presence here. Sites like this (actually any sites, as that was before there was a real internet of sorts..) were not available then. Now, this 221 fireball with the 1 in 12 twist from my searching topics here back to 2002 or so, seem quite capable of using the 55 grain FMJ bullets down in to the 2300f/s to maybe 2700 f/s range. I am looking forward to restarting my reloading pleasures. It is a great past time during the foul weather times and a great enjoyment watching the bullets follow each other through one ragged hole at 100yds.

My primary calibers of choice are rimfires in the .22 caliber, but I do enjoy the centerfire options of reloading.

I will likely not post too often other than to ask questions, as I am certainly not as experienced as most here. But as an avid reader, I will be using the search mode to keep the gathering of info coming.

221 Fireball..... It just seems such a natural for a pill of 0.223 diameter... I do wonder why it is not more popular.

Thanks LongPlay...

Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Thanks for the welcome !

Looking forward to learning.
Yeah, that 7-08 was my first try at the high power silhouette game. Funny, cause I never got to shoot a single match. Range where I was going to shoot, was forming up, I jumped in with the gear, and they finally gave up, due the lack of ability to get insurance for the range... Weird, cause they supposedly shot an Olympic event there....

Thanks again. so far spending a lot of time going through the hundreds of posts I get from a search on 221 Fireball....

Longplay.....the Fireball uses standard .224" bullets, the .223" are generally used in the older rifles chambered for the .22 Hornet. The early rifles had barrels rechamberd from .22 LR barrels, and this carried over for several years thereafter.
