Out of curiosity mainly, does anyone have experience with the .376 Steyr they could share?

While Hornady loads 225 and 270 hrain bullets for a nominal muzzle velocity of 2600fps, I noted from the Hodgson powders on line data base that 2700+ fps was possible through to 2500-2600 fps with bullets in the weight range of Speer 235 grains to 260 grain Nosler and 270 grain Hornadys.

It looks like a flatter shooting 9.3x62 with less recoil than a .338Win Mag.

I have never owned a .376 Steyr, however I have now been on two different safaris with hunters using .376 Steyr Scout Rifles. Both rifles did their job superbly when the hunter did his part. The first hunter was clearly the best practiced and the best shot, the second had trouble learning to use the scout scope system, once he did (obviously had not practiced) he became quite adept with the combo. Both hunters used the 270 grain Hornaday factory ammunition. First hunter took everything from Impala to Water Buffalo with his scout, including a very impressive Waterbuck and a large Gemsbok, 18 head in all. The second hunter took even more game, using two scout rifles, .376 and .308 interchangeably so I cannot tell you his exact .376 count, only that he took 25 or 26 heads. The .376 sure looked impressive to me!

I have two 376 steyrs. I have taken mostly pigs and 1 brown bear. One is on an FN Mauser and the other is on a Brazlian 1908.

I settled on BLC-2...I get 2525 for 270 grn bullet and 2350 for 300 grn bullet.

I don't think an animal on the planet is going to be able to tell the difference.

The recoil si just enough lower than a 375HH that I don't come home from the range with a headache.

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Did Steyr stop chambering this round in their rifles? I did not see it listed as an option on their web page...

robthom I have a 376 Steyr with a 23" stainless barrel on a Montana Arms model 1999 action in a Serengeti laminated stock and the metal has been sere-coted. I sent dummy rounds with 270grain Barnes X and Swift A Frames to Montana Rifleman as this was the first one they had ever chambered. I find that factory Hornady 270grains on my crony are averaging 2695FPS at 20 feet at 80degrees F. I find some signs that this is a little hot or at least near max. I loaded Swift A-Frames 270grains about 1.5 to 2 grains below max with Varget and I get 2595 with the same crony. This is the load I took to Africa. Most shots were complete pass through including a big Eland and 165 yards. I recovered two bullets. One a Texas Heart Shot on a Zebra. The recovered weigh was about 265grains. I recovered one from a big blue Wildebeest on a shot from 95 yard from 4 to 10. The bullet broke the left shoulder and was under the loose skin. You could see it. It weighed about 230grains. The Varget fills up the case so I am going to try some finer grain powder that is a bit faster. Varget takes up to much space to use Barnes X as they are very long. My max OAL is about 3.1" with the short action Model 1999. I am also going to try some 300 grain A-Frames. Hopes this helps.
