I am an assistant elementary school principal. I teach an after-school "conservation" class. I do a unit each term on gun safety and being an avid hunter / handloader, I emphasize the fact that people kill people and that guns react as directed. To the point: This class is being taught on our own initiative so I had no materials when I started. I contacted every gun manufacturer, bullet company, and powder company I could find on the web. I also contacted the NRA. The NRA responded quickly sending me tons of Eddie Eagle materials (enough for one full year of class). Hornady and Sierra sent catalogs, patches, pins, and stickers. Bushnell Optics sent 4 pairs of compact binocs for our wildlife watching activities. Ruger Firearms sent two safety videos, brochures, stickers, and patches. It is important to note that I did not ask for money. I requested patches or stickers that I could use to award students who completed the unit. I'm not trying to sway anyone's opinion for or against any company. I just thought you may care to know which companies helped a small-town rural elementary school with a worthwhile task. Speer has also promised to send material, but I have not received it yet. Remington offered discounts on products in their online store. A lot of people give companies grief on web forums when they screw up. This is my opportunity for a big hats off to the big companies who care. We can say a lot of things about promoting our sport. These companies have spoken with action. Thanks for reading. Reloaders Haul Brass!

Thanks for that....these are all excellent companies in my opinion...all class acts as far as public service...I salute each one. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Thanks for your comments. I appreciate them. It is very needful. I asked 28 students on Wednesday how many have guns in their house. 23 hands went up. Next question was how many have guns that are locked in a cabinet or safe. 12 hands went up. Next question was of those 12, how many know where the key is or how to open the safe...are you ready? 11 hands went up. Reloaders Haul Brass!

I would be surprised if many were surprised at that response. When I was a kid, I pretty much knew everything that went on in my home. My impression is that the same is true for most kids today, with the exception of a few that spend their waking hours immersed in some video game. Even with safes and locking devices, the most important part of keeping kids safe with guns in the home is the same as it has been through out history, education and discipline. I wish to also thank you for your contribution toward these needs. Idaho Shooter

Another would be, "How many of you have parents that keep a gun in the car? OK, how many of you know where the car key is?"
