Well i quit work the other day and am getting ready to head back to college. I now have 5 days to do nothing but pack a prepare. I have also been thinking about different loads for my .308. I was just wondering would this be a good load for whitetails out to 300 yards or am I just dreaming. Barnes makes a 140 grain X bullet which I could push to about 3000 fps. This should be flatter shooting than the 150's and would penetrate better on bigger bodied deer at longer ranges. Only thing is will the Barnes shoot in my rifle. I'll have to see. Tell me if i am wasting my time and am obsessed w/ hunting. ha

I'm with TXPO. No magic here. You hit them where they live and they'll go home with you.

Barnes also makes a 130 gr. XLC-BT. This could be pushed to 3100 fps or a little more, and still provide good penetration. [Smile]

I've known several people, (one a game warden) in New Mexico that used hot 125 and 130-grain loads for BIG mule deer, with great success. And they didn't even have X bullets back then! [Wink]
