There is a difference! Today I was at the range and shooting with a friend who had a .338-06 made 20 years ago, we compared cartridges and mine which I had made 2 years ago, has the 17 degree shoulder and his has the 33 degree shoulder...so what do I have? I also noticed in various reloading manuals that there are different shoulder angles listed, but not both of them in the same manual..Regardless of what I have it is a great cartridge...it does a great job on everything I've used it on. I load it with 59gr of IMR4350 behind 250 grain (Nosler, Swift, Hornady and Sierrra). The rifle is a Ruger M77 RSI (18in brl)great brush gun... I don't think that these cartridges would be interchangeable would they? JohnB

The .338-06 A-square has the 17deg. shoulder. If you have a 28 or 40deg. it's an imp. version. The dims. on the Reloadbench site are incorrect: www.gunsandammomag.com/ammunition/338_0113/ You're right though, it is a great cart. for any NA big game, I love mine.

Yup, expanding the neck of an '06 to .338 works wonders. First, you get the same expansion ratio and velocity range is the 308 Winnie, along with the faster, denser powders. Then you get bullet weights from 160 to 300 grs and they all stabilize nicely. Energy is right there with the 300 Win Mag and 300 WSM, but at lower velocities that make for better bullet performance on game. In close you are better off with a 300 grainer at 2300 fps than a factory 338 win mag with a 250 grainer for a big griz, so what can't you hunt with it?
