Bought a Rem. Model 7 and I was curious if anyone has developed loads particularly suited to a shorter barrel (using 140g bullets for deer)? Would appreciate any input ... thanks.
I use the following load in a M700 Mountain rifle with a 22" tube. Federal brass, CCI 200 primer, Nozler 140gr Ballistic Tip-43.0gr IMR 4064 This load is slightly compressed, and gives low Standard Deviation. 2850fps muzzle velocity (cronographed) This is a warm load so reduce it about 4grs and work up. Very accurate in my rifle.

In my 7-08 with a 22 inch barrel I have tried Varget, H-380, H-4895, IMR 4895, and IMR 4350. Sofar H-4895 has been the best with CCI 200 primers and Hornady 139g. Interlock.
My model 7 is the older style with the 18 1/2in.barrel. I use rem brass, cci lr primers, 140 nosler partitions, healthy charge of H4895. Haven't chronied the load in this gun but in a custom job w/22in barrel, it turns in 2900+ fps. This combo is very sudden on mulies out to 300 yards.

I have and 18 1/2" micro A-bolt in 7mm-08. Tried Varget and H4895 with disappointing results. Then tried a faster powder (IMR 3031 and got very good accuracy and 2810 fps using 140 grain Nosler Ballistic tips. Max load with this combo is 40.5 gr IMR3031. I use 40.2. As always, start low and work up.

My wife shoots a Rem model 7 in 7mm-.08 with 139g Hornady bullets. Remington primers, H380 (mid range load right out of the Hogdon manual...at work, can't remember weight)and the Hornady bullets. Dropped a doe in her tracks at 321 paces and a nice buck at 175. Good load...shoots under 1.25 inches in her rifle. H380 is spherical, so it measures like a dream. Email me at home, I'll send the exact load. raven045@arctic.net

My wife has a M70 Compact with the 20" barrel. Factory loads do pretty well but my handloads are REALLY slow, but very accurate. I finally ended up using VARGET and it seemed to give the best mix of velocity and accuracy. Finally went to heavy bullets at a moderate speed a system that works pretty well.
