With the lack of availability of my favorite components I decided to try what is available... So today I tried TAC and 77 MK's using a .3 grain spread between loads. The beginning load I choose was 23.0 grains (1.5 grains under Sierra's max.) Federal Gold Medal brass virgins, and Fed 205M primers at 2.257 COL. Rifle is a Colt Accurized rifle CR 6724. Leupold MK 4 16X, Jewell trigger with Tubb springs and CWS.

Oh, the range was 405 yards. I may try some more of these Wink

This sure wouldn't be the first time some one found a better powder because the one they used was unavailable

Great groups!

Goes in tight!

Years back, our firms accountant loved the humor of that style. Thanks for the chuckle... It's been a good day.

One group doesn't tell us a whole lot, shoot 5, 5-shot groups and average them. Then you'll know something.

I think you must be a world class shooter or somthing to stumble onto a once tried powder and have groups like that at 405 yards.

I never have used the B.S. flag but I almost did here.
I mean no offense to you, as stranger things have happened, You might want to quit your day job and start competing.

Big GrinMan-O-Man!Big Grin That is indeed a BRAGGER group. thumb

You mentioned Loading them 0.3gr apart. Which was the Load that made that fine group?

One of my Califoney buddies has mentioned he liked TAC Powder. But I think he was using it in something with a larger Bore. I think he also said it burned relatively clean for him too.

Best of luck to you.

Nice shooting!

As for stranger things happening, just a tiny brag here, but I was working with Berger's new .277 150gr VLDs (0.012 off lands) and Ramshot Magnum just to play. 4 three shot groups on first loads every tried didn't exceed 3/4" at 200 yards using a bipod and prone position. I was happy with it.

But, I've never produced quarter sized groups at 400 yrds with anything! I'm just not that good.

I fully understand that this a bragger group, and far from the "norm" most would assume. I do consider myself a bit above average... been at it a while. While I had not previousily tried TAC in my rifle a fellow I share the range with a couple of times a week shoots TAC in his LaRue upper and has had excellent 1/2 MOA repeatable groups for several hundred rounds. So I decided to do a ladder type test from a surgically clean barrel. The first load was this load, and it shot a vertical group about three inches tall, by 1 inch wide. I then shot the other three loads and best wanted to be about 3/4 MOA. Then with the now fouled bore I returned to this load and the above group. Coincidentally, a third shooter was using the Hornady 75 BTHP's and the same load, but in Winchester brass, his vertical averaged about 1/4 MOA, but the horizontal aspect went to about 5/8's MOA. It was a good day for TAC.

I do understand and have on occasion had the desire to call BS on a fellow poster, but for many reasons not the least of which is experience I have learned that such a call is a waste of my time and efforts to move forward. I share this experience with those whom have the ability to read, not all have the ability to comprehend.

Doc, as a Dominican friend of mine used to say: "You are better than good!"

Hot Core, The specifics of the load are: 23.0 grains of TAC, Federal Gold Medal brass, Federal 205 M primers, Sierra 77 grain MK bullet loadd to 2.257 COL. My buddies LaRue shoots 23.3 better, his 16" does 2550 ft/secs with that load. In Lapua brass with CCi BR primers. I have not yet chronographed this load in my rifle, though one can be assured I will be!

Thanks for looking.

ConfusedIt is difficult for me to understand why anyone would question the doability of this group, new powder et all.

No wet blanket or sour grapes here. fishingroger

Now THAT is useful information!! One of my shooting friends has used 2230-C for a number of years in his .30-BR benchrest rifle and has shot a bunch of National Records with it. Nice to know that something very near the same thing is still available commercially, regardless of name. (2230-C is supposedly a somewhat slower lot of 2230, but who knows?).

Also means I now have some more useful data for the regular AA-2230 I have.

Thanks very much for your post.

Regarding the TAC is 2230, I also tried some of the 2230 with 55 FMJ's and will tell you that the pressure curve is definately faster for the same quantities of powder.

Beware be careful.
