Specifically with 100 grain bullets?

My daughter will be hunting mule deer for the first time this year (12 years old) and I am putting a load together for our .243 Winchester using 100 grain Hornady BTSP bullets. I have serveral suitable powders on hand, but I was given a lb of RL19 in a horse trade and I don't have any other use for it at the present time. Thought I might give it a try instead of using up stashes of my powders preferred in other cartridges (IMR 4831, IMR 4350, H1000, RL22 and IMR 7828).

Thanks.

I use reloader 19 in my 6mm rem behind 70 gr bullets. So far I have got my best results with this powder out of this rifle. However I have only used H414 in my 243. I have just started loading for this 243 and have only tried 58 gr vmax's and this powder/Bullet combo is a keeper.
I am willing to bet that the Reloader 19 will be good with the heavier 100 grain in your 243.

I used the Hornady max load under a 100gr sierra BTSP (seated out a bit) for 2,800fps in a 18" barrel. Seemed to work well.

I shoot 40 grs rl19 under 100gr sierra spt with great results. You mentioned your other powders you use,FWIW, RL19 is probably between imr 4350 and imr 4831 on burn rate. It has replaced 4350 on my bench mostly for 25-06 and 30-06.

300winnie: I have had good luck with RL19 and Speer's 105 grain SP bullet - 37.0 grains @ 2.65" COL shoots well in my BLR. Despite being a mild loading with modest velocity, I get good accuracy out of its 20" barrel (1 in 10" twist).

Thanks, Dad, for taking me into the Great Outdoors.

Hi: I found R19 the best powder for my .243. I didn't find much in the manuals at the tiem, but had a best load
type ballistic reloading program that recommended it, so tried it.

Let me just say, I wouldn't choose anything else in the .243. Got great accuracy plus good velocity...all
you would want.

For sure! Use it!

Best Regards,

Tom

I tend to agree with all posts, since my own experience with R19 was very good, both in accuracy and velocity, but I now I switched to R22 in order to keep pressures a bit low.

Regards, Gus

Thanks to all for the info. Never considered using R19 in a 6mm and look forward to trying it. It's also the only powder I've found that will get me 2500fps with a 250g bullet in my 338-06.
