I'm putting together a Rem.700 in 300 win. mag and would like to know if anyone has worked up any loads using this powder? I have a friend that uses the vihta vuori in his 300 rum and had good results.

Thanks for any info,
John TN.

Well not being a reloader yet, and only being a dumb old country boy, I would like to shoot the accu-bond in 180 grain. and if I already knew which VV powder I wouldn't have asked the question.

Now with that said, and hoping not to make things more confusing, my friend has all of the reloading equipment I will need and then some, and will teach me how to use it.

My post was in regards to finding someone that has used the vihta vuori for their loads already and their results ie grouping, bullet selection used, good, bad etc.

Just hoping for some help-ful info from some of the more seasoned reloaders like yourself ricciardelli.

Thanks
John TN.

John,

I use Vit 160 and Vit 140 with good results in .243 and .308 respectively. Vit is a popular range of powder in England.

I haven't used any of the Vit powders in the .300 Win Mag but I have been successful with H4831SC and the 180grn Accubond. Try 76grns with the bullet on the lands (using a Stoney Point gauge COL to the ogive is 3.940" in my rifle) but be careful as this is over the max listed load in the manual. This load cloverleafs in my Rem 700 stainless synthetic at 100yds.

I hope that helps.

Regards

Thanks for the info, I hope to get this gun together in the next couple of months, and I'm just trying to get ahead of the game by getting as much info as I can, so when I start reloading maybe I won't have too many headaches along the way.

I have always found that if you listen to experience it will save you grief, no matter how stubborn you are.

Being new to the forums here, it's neat to have conversation and feedback from all over the world, and this web-site has a wealth of information available at the touch of a mouse, glad I found it.

Thanks again

John TN.

Vihtavouri's N1xx series powders is not very well suited for full power loads for the 300 Winmag with 180grs bullets or heavier. N560 is much better. One of the best powders, if not THE best powder for the heavier bullets in the 300 is Norma MRP or Reloader 22 (both are very similar powders from Bofors). I use 75grs of MRP with most 180grs bullets, this is a couple of grains under max in the 3 Rem 700's I'm reloading for, they do about 3000 fps in a 24" tube.

Vihtavouri powders always do well in the precision department :-) But I've never reached those speeds with N160 in a 24" tube, MRP gives me 100-150 fps more than N160 with less pressure and the precision is more than good enough for hunting anything I hunt with my 300. N560 gives roughly the same speeds as MRP but with much more muzzle blast and I've seen a bit more lot variations than I like with the N5xx series.

My 700 has a 24" tube as well.

I really do appreciate the info from all of you, I know it takes a lot of time and being patient, at home on the reloader and at the shooting range to acquire a accurate load and bullet combination for any gun.

I will save your info to look at when I get to the loading up stage and I will give you a report back with the results on what my gun does best with.

Thanks again

I am going to very strongly suggest you try H4831SC and RL22. I have rebarrelled my 300 win mag twice now. Yes, I have fired A LOT of 300 win mag RELOADS, and I have played with A LOT of combinations. No, not the Vhit powders, but I have found some extremely accurate loads. One barrell liked RL22, the other liked H4831SC. One preferred 200 grain bullets, the other the 180 grain accubonds. Try as many powders as you like, but again I stronly suggest trying the 2 I mention.

The 165 load is my pet load in my Blaser R93 (25" bbl.).
The 180 load is my pet load in my Rem Sendero(26" bbl.).
All velocities chronographed.

I will try both H4831SC and RL 22, one local guy recommended the RL 22 as well and said he had really good results in his 280-AI with the H4831SC and of course I had to ask what the SC meant and learned it stood for short cut, so I'm learning.

Between the three it sounds like I will find one that will give good results.
