I've got a .338-06 Mauser that I made for elk hunting. It shoots 210 Gr. Nosler Partition bullets well enough but I'd like use it for deer hunting with the 180 Gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip.

So far, I've woefull results with 4064 and a few others. Groups are 3" or more.

Could you folks post your favorite accuracy loads and any other suggestions? Could barrel twist be wrong for the light bullet? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Stupid question but if it shoots 210 Partitions well why not just hunt deer with them?

Shibum,
That's not a stupid question at all. From a practical point of view, it makes sense.

I LIKE to make loads work and fool around with different loads. The Ballistictip bullet looks like it would be better suited to thin skined game than the tougher Partition bullet.

Give the Speer 200gr sp a try. It shoots to the same POA as the 210grNP in my rifle. I haven't killed anything w/ this bullet yet. The NP works so well I just keep hunting w/ it.

What load are you using with the 210's, and what loads did you try with the 180's?

try 52.0 grs. rl-15,win case, fed 210 primer,250 gr. sierra. this load clocks 2600 fps out of a 26" shilen s.s. bbl. on a win mod 70 classic. have not had much luck with bullets under 250 grs. best group to date has been 3 shots into .254"@ 100m. when i take my time largest groups have still been under .5"

Try 54 grs rl 15,fed gm210 primer. seat your bullet .030 of the lands. This particular load delivers 1 MOA out of my 338-06.
My rifle happens to be a mauser also,22"pacnor bbl. By the way that particular load clock in at around 2680,have to look at my data for exact FPS.
