Anyone know where to find loads for Berger hunting bullets in 300wsm. Prefer 175gr or 185gr. I looked at berger and Hodgdon with no luck. Thanks.

Just start with the standard bullet 180gr start loads and work up. But I wouldn't even start touching the lands. Probably wouldn't fit in the mag anyway. Start the length what will work in the magazine. God Bless, Louis

Sounds good. I will keep them off the lands, but make them as close to max magazine length as possible.

Louis, I agree with your admonition of not seating to the lands to start off with a new load for pressure reasons however, I have found that Berger hunting VLD's (at least in my 6 mm BR) give the best accuracy if touching to jammed .010" Granted, I have a single shot and each is loaded as needed, not in a magazine but once you are satisfied with the load not being too hot and what you have is giving good accuracy, he may try to SLOWLY move the bullet closer to the rifling to see if it tightens the groups. Anyway, that is what works with the Berger's for me. YMMV Gary

Just give Walt Berger an email, with all your details, bullet weight and cal, and he will gladly reply with the Min and Max loads for a number of powders if you so desire. His email is: bergerltd@aol.com

From what I understand is that the Berger bullets are pretty long and recommend that you seat to the lands. You may find that you might not be able to get even close to the lands because of the magazine lenght. "We are what we repeatedly do. In some guns, yes, you must seat into the lands, but you'd be surprised how many rifles don't need this. My Tikka T3 in .270 WSM likes them at .030 off the lands. The following is a quote taken from the Berger website: For years we have relayed that it is best to jam the VLD into the lands for best performance. This works for many rifles however there are many rifles that do not shoot the VLD well when the bullet is jammed. We have learned that the VLD can shoot best as much as .150 jump off the rifling. VLD bullets can be sensitive to seating depth and it has been found that these bullets shoot best in a COAL “sweet spot”. This sweet spot is a COAL range that is usually .030 to .040 wide.

Oh I guess I was just using Berger's recommendation on seating to the lands. I've considered switching to bergers for my 300WSM, but knew my magazine was too short. Maybe I'll try them now. Back to the original topic. I have found that just about any 4350 is generally where I start looking for my 300WSM. I see that Hybrid 100V and Win Supreme 780 offer some promising numbers. I plan on using Hybrid 100V in my next loads. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit"--Aristotle (384BC-322BC)
