Nickle Plated Bullets
Does anyone know why Federal is coming out with a Trophy Bonded bullet that is nickle plated. I have no idea, other than looks, what this will do for a bullet. Will nickle build up in a barrel like copper. I e-mailed federal for an answer but the odds of a reply are slim to none.

Norma has done this for a while and I dont think it creates any problems there.

Is it a nickel plate, or is it a cruppo-nickel alloy jacket?

I have no idea. The only thing I know is what I saw in Petersons Hunting Mag. Under new products. It stated nickle plated.

nickel plate, as the cruppo-nickel has come up and down, and its too dang hard ... oh, yeah, and there was black nickel plated something awhile ago...

they do it to sell bullets, not improve them

Anyone who has done or been involved in nickle plating, will tell you that nickle deposited on steel can only be removed in one of three ways.

1. Mechanical abrasion, with something harder than the deposited nickle.

2. With a reverse plating process involving a couple of chemicals, one of which is sodium cyanide. (Gas chamber ring a bell?)

3. Sulphuric acid.

Take your pick.
