RCBS Electronic Scale/Powder Trickler

For years and years, I have been using my 5-0-5 beam scale and regular ole powder tricker from RCBS. But was thinking it would be cool and faster with this 320 dollar electronic setup. My question is, does it work as advertised for different powders from Unique to H50BMG? And how accurate is it? Do you just type in your load you want and it spits it out right on the nose?

Hi
I have the RCBS powder dispenser and powder pro scale they work great you will need both of them to make it work the right way and all you do is press the charge you want and it will drop it for you 38.5 grs of powder everytime with in one tenth I LOVE MINE and would not trade them.

I use the RCBS scale and trickler combo too. It works well, but it's really not that fast. I also found out you can sometimes have problems if you have flourescent lights in your work area. I had to change to incandescent. You should also set up the scale and trickler where you won't be bumping them while doing something else. Usually I'll have the combo dispensing powder while I'm seating the bullet in my press. Once you get in a rythm it works well. I still like it better than the beam balance scale I used to use.

If you're in the market for an RCBS Electronic Powder Trickler, Grafs has them for $69.95. They are closing them out. I just ordered mine a few minutes ago and was told they had about 30 left.

I have that system, and a few others, and that's the one I use most of the time. It's faster and as accurate as any other, including one with a scientific scale. I use the cheap Lee Powder Dippers to get the powder on the scale to very near the required charge then touch the dispense button to finish it. That's much faster than anything else I know. Much faster than beam scales and just as accurate. Wouldn't be without mine.

This was a VERY dissapointing product for me and went down the road inside of a month. It was slower than I could weigh by hand and accuracy was twice the advertised tolerance when the scale readout indicated correct weight(+/- 0.18 gr). I only tried stick powder in mine. You first plug everything in, then let it warm up 15-20 min, then add powder and 'calibrate'. This is a 1 minute procedure. Next you type in desired charge weight and you're set to go. Takes about 45 seconds to trickle out 308 loads. Throwing bulk of charge with a measure will reduce that to about 24 seconds. Will not be found on many benches of serious long range guys. Tubb uses a prometheus which is not only faster but way more accurate. A good read can be found in Zedikers book 'Reloading for Competition'.

There are TWO systems. You obviously have the "DISPENSER" system. The question related to the TRICKLER system.

Bob, for 320 bucks he probably is looking at the dispensor/trickler, I maybe wrong.

I have this setup, it is very fast, even when used with a conventional measurer and larger cases too. Accuracy is within a tenth grain always on mine. The trickle feature works well with all powder and is never goes over more than a tenth when it even does that. I get frustrated behind a trickler using stick powder so this was a welcome, come and take over type thing for me. [Smile]

Ok guys just looked at this. There is a trickler/scale combo and dispenser/scale combo. And 100 dollars difference. Is it worth it to pay the extra?

Mid South has the trickler for $200, but the full-blown powder dispenser is $188. What gives? Why would the (in RCBS's words) "low cost" alternative cost more?

So what do you think? The trickler for $70? Does sound faster, if the regular "powdermaster" takes 45 seconds to dispense a load!

I got the RCBS Powder Pro Digital and the Electronic Dispenser for working up loads with extruded powder, it is a dream. Someone on one of the other forums said the dispenser would jam up with Ball Pwdr., I run quite a bit of 760 Win through this one today, no problem. So if they had one, it is remedy'd, or I hope so.

I calibrated the scale after it arrived, have never did it again. Very seldom needs re-zeroed, it just works.

Bigcountry,

The dispensor dumps about 45gr of varget in 30 seconds for my 308, it's too slow for me so I charge all my cases with the Redding a grain low and then trickle one at a time as I seat the bullets. If you want to seat a bullet while it's dispensing another 45grs you still have to wait for it. Unless you can stay busy while waiting or don't mind just taking your time the trickler will work fine and save you some cash too, especially at those prices. Natchezs had them on sale once for 129. and 139. and that was the dispensor too. Never seen them that low again so I blew the 189. for it.

I calibrate mine before use each time, takes thirty seconds. My scale will read .6 to 1.2 gr high after it warms up about 20 to 30 minutes later, so I wait and then calibrate when it stabilizes.

Gentlemen Take a look at the Denver Accurate Load IV. I throw a charge as close to the proper wieght as I can, then trickle in the rest to get the exact charge I want. This scale is fast and accurate. I do not know how I loaded for so many years without it. Kinda pricey but worth every penny. I have been using it for several years with no problems. I leave it plugged in all the time.

Is it possible to dump an initial charge from a conventional powder dispenser into the powder scale and then have the electronic trickler top it off?
