Just back and used the bullets on 2 tur. These are handloads in my .300 WM. 2875 fps. 200 grain. First tur shot head on at 380 yards downhill. BR2 confirmed 350 yards actual. Center chest, tur was DRT. Unfortunately, it then slid 1000 feet down the damn mountain! No exit and no bullet recovered. Second tur shot by my hunting companion. 175 yards. Bullet destroyed near shoulder and shredded the heart. No damage to off shoulder, no exit and no bullet recovered. Animal was DRT. My personal take from this very limited sample is that Hornady's bullet is not as tough as Nosler's AB. However, the 3 animals killed with AB were all shot at distances over 200 yards. I've never killed with the VLD=X so my opinion matters for nothing but that would have been my suspicion based on the construction methods of the two bullets. It's OKAY to use a more fragile bullet under certain conditions but not all. Deer size game will be taken regularly with a fragile bullet but not for elk size game for me. I'd want the Accubond toughness at a minimum for the bigger stuff. I used a 150 Ballistic tip on a bighorn last year with complete confidence and performance was fine but I would not use it for bear, elk or moose. My 2 cents.... based on half the knowledge. Zeke PS: thanks for the report and congratulations on taking a tur. They are a sweet trophy! | |||
