I'm looking for clarification on which bullet to use. I was looking at the Hodgdon site and it says .224 but I was wondering why not .223 since it would be closer to the diameter of .222. I also noticed on Hornady's site that they specifically have a .222 bullet, a .223 bullet and tons of .224 bullets. Am I over analyzing the .001-.002 difference or am I missing something here. Thanks! *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# I'll never be able to give back to this forum all that I've learned from it. But I do want to thank those of you that have helped me out over the years.

use the .224 diameter bullets.....the .222 is .224 Dia. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Winston Churchill

Me again... What is the consensus for powder in the .222? I've seen BL-C(2) and Reloader 7 on quite a few boards but was curious what the guys here used. Thanks again. *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# I'll never be able to give back to this forum all that I've learned from it. My old 222 shoots IMR 4198 best, 19.6 grains and a 50 grain bullet. My new one won't shoot 4198 at all, but RL-7 is a different story. It shoots great. I'd try both along with the BL-C(2) to see what your rifle likes best.

I have a couple of 222's. BLC-2 (and 50gr bullets) works so well in both of them that I have never really tried much of anything else.

Lots of powders work well in .222 (with your .224" bullets!) My personal favorites are H-335 and either of the 4895s. But anything from the speed of 4198 through about 4320 usually works nicely.

Ino longer have a .222 but when I did I used IMR-3031 until I discovered BL-C(2).....and today it's all I use for that size case.....mostly .223 today. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." SShooterZ ; The triple duce likes a myriad of projectiles as well as powders so good luck with a particular load . Seems as though every rifle is different in as far as bullet appetite goes . Barrel length twist rate projectile weight on and on . .224 is the standard Dia. for the .222 . My duce's like in order of accuracy Bl-C2 H 335 Varget IMR 4895 . My likes BL-C2 23.0 Grains topped off with a 53 grain bench rest Sierra . It makes 5 holes a dime will cover more times than not . Shoot straight know your target ...

Reloader 7 is an old powder dating back from the 60s or before.. it was used a lot in the old days in the 222... RL 7, H 322 and IMR 4895 are good powders in the 222, and their use goes way back... The boys above listed a bunch of powders that have come later that also give good service in the 222.. BLC 2 and H 335 are two great powders when the barrel is starting to show throat erosion.. they will keep the 222 and 223 shooting tight groups when they have started to wear out the throat BiG Time...
