Just came across some 300 Win 190 gr Extended Range ammo.

Anybody ever use any?

I took these 190 gr BT ER to the range yesterday and was absolutely impressed with MOA, and 2982 fps.

I think those would make a fine Cape Kudu load

Basically the predecessor to the High Energy and Light Magnum loads, Remington's Extended Range ammo was a good idea that never really caught on. The approach Rem took was to offer a heavier than standard bullet with a higher BC to maximize long range performance. But in some calibers, such as the .243 WCF, the 105 grain offering was a bit more than many rifles would stabilize properly. Thus, accuracy suffered -- as did the reputation of the ammo. But as you have found, in certain versions, it worked -- and worked extremely well.

You may want a tougher bullet. If I am not mistaken that round is loaded with a Ballistic Tip, which would be fine for teh smaller plains animals but I'd want something that penetrates better for Cape Kudu.

Perry-I could be wrong here, but I don't recall any of the ER ammo using Ballistic Tips. The "BT" stood for boat-tail. But then again, I don't use factory ammo other than in rimfire applications.

If I remember correctly, the 190 grain ER version utilized a bullet that much resembled the Hornady 190 grain BTSP.

Bobby, your are correct. It is a SP Boat Tail, with no "plastic tip".

Terry-Thanks for posting. That's what I thought -- and as such, it would certainly make a good Cape kudu load.

I've been trying to find some of that for the longest time. It shot under an inch out of my 300 win 700 bdl ss.

Nice find!
