Looking at a 7mm WSM, but was wanting to lighten the load a bit. Tech manuals show minimum loads, and my guess is that you cant go below this. Or can you? What I'd like is 140 grains at about 2700 fps. The minimum data i have in 140 grains in 7WSM is about 2900. So is it safe to back off even further to hit 2600-2700?

Here is what Hodgdon says on their site. http://www.hodgdon.com/PDF/Youth%20Loads.pdf BAsically take the max load for H4895 in your rifle and take 60% of that load. That being their youth load. That load could then be reduced up to another 10%. Tells me you can load from that point back up to max with H4895. Looking at the Hodgdon data for a 140 the max H4895 is 55 grains. 60% of that is 33grs. QL says around 46grs would give you 2700 in a 22" barrel. As usual just my $.02 Paul K
