I use a hand primer, and I want to remind everybody who uses to point away from you at all times when seating. I didn't have one go off, but I did have one manage to get seated crooked.

I don't worry too much about hand primers because I wear safety glasses every waking moment and I can feel what I am doing. I did once have the primer feed on a Lee Pro 1000 go off on me with one hell of a bang and I'll offer anyone braver than me a very good deal on it.

When I was a kid I had one go off in my Lee Loader. Was loading 32Spls in my room. Sorta scared me, and Ma heard it and I heard about it very shortly thereafter. No harm done. First and only time it ever happened, but every time I prime a case I think about that incidence. Must have had the primer upside down, I guess.

Decapping some cases and noticed, "those primers sure are clean?". They should be clean, they weren't fired . Even though I always were earplugs and safety glasses when working with reloading equipment, to keep the spent primers from dropping on the kitchen floor I had my hand cupped at the base of the ram. Had one popped it would have driven itself into my hand. Big ouch on that.

I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO POP PRIMERS LIKE THAT WITH YOUR GUN. WHY WOULD YOU DEPRIME PRIMED CASES? I LIKE MY LEE AUTO PRIME I TOO HAVE HAS SOME GO IN SIDEWAYS. A .357 MAG CAN BE YOUR BEST FRIEND..........

Let's try this again. A single primer firing in the loading process is rarely a big deal and happens to most of us sooner or later. A chainfire of all the primers in an automatic primer feed IS a big deal. Lee says that CCI and Win primers won't do serious damage to someone wearing eye protection. Maybe so, maybe not. What I know is that I am not using any more auto primer feeders in progressive metallic presses unless I can get a serious shield between it and me. Easy with the tube type, you just slide a length of pipe down over the tube. I can patch holes in the ceiling. Not so easy with a disk type that is carried on the press ram. There might be a way to mount a shield but I did not find an easy one and was not happy enough with that press to put a lot of effort into it. 70 or 80 primers going off all at once will make a believer of you.
