How fast could a .338 250 Grain GS custom HP be driven at by a .338-.378 Weatherby with a 32 inch barrel? Bullets could be seated as far out as the bottom of the neck, as it would be in a Ruger No. 1. Any information will be much appreciated. Max velocity possible, as recoil and pressure are not to big of problems.

My Hornady manual shows a 28" barrel and max velocity of 3,000'/sec with a 250 grain bullet.....add four inches on top of that.....I'll bet you'll not exceed 3,100'/sec.

I ran thru Load from a Disk using a Speer Grand Slam bullet which has a BC of .431 and it came up right at 3100fps. Your bullet is not in their database.

This should go a long way to helping you find the answer.

For what its worth I get an average of 3208fps with 250gr Sierra MatchKings from a 28 inch barrel in 338-378.

Rock, I've got a Mark V with a 29" inch Shilen barrel and it'll do 3200 fps. with 250 gr. Matchkings. With a 32 inch barrel you should be able to get to about 3300 fps. I would think. Maybe more.
