Hello.
I just got my hands on a box of 600grs. Barnes Orginal -bullets for my 460wby.

Do any of you have some loads for this bullet?
(I would really appreciate some loads with european powder, or maybe Reloader.) Wink

Have any of you had any problem stabilize these bullets in this caliber?

I'd like some field experience too, if any of you have any.

Ray?? Wink

I feel the big case of the .460 should be ideal for the 600 gr bullet and it would solve the to much speed issue.

Arild,
Steves data is good but I didn't see any velocities with it.

The Hodgdon Manual has some data for the Barnes Original RNSP .458/600gr bullet:

H4831 110.0gr 2302 fps
H4831 115.0gr 2457 fps

H4350 98.0gr 2292 fps
H4350 104.0gr 2439 fps

H414 102.0gr 2369 fps
H414 105.0gr 2419 fps

Long ago I used 100.0 grains of IMR-4350 in the Wby brass with F-215 primer and got about 2300 fps and 2" three-shot groups at 100 yards. Nice thumper.

I reckon you could start at 100.0 grains of Norma 204, RL-19, or VVN550 and get about 2250 to 2300 fps, and work up to about 2450 fps, in a standard Weatherby freebored chamber with 24 to 26 inch barrel.

Thats my man!!
Thanks RIP, just what I was looking for!! Wink

I've tried 112grains of Norma MRP, but the loads are heavily compressed. But I havent chronographed that load yet.
I would love to have a 2400 f/s load.

Now I've shot some slugs over the chrony, and got these numbers:
460wby, 26" barrel.
600grs. Barnes Orginal.(COL=94,5mm):
112grs. MRP (Heavily compressed load)=2215f/s.

98grs. N150 = 2240f/s.
100grs. N150= 2296f/s.
102grs. N150= 2351f/s.

The recoil is starting to be noticable! Wink
