boilerroom : That reminds me of the time I went to my mothers for dinner and she said she had a little "chore" for me. I protested that I had just come from work and had on good clothes. She said "you won't get dirty; I just want you to spray this hornets nest". The problem was that the hornets nest was up in the eave of the garage and the only way I had of getting up to it was a rickety old stepladder. Well, I leaned the stepladder against the garage and climbed up as far as I could, with the nest just above me. I was expecting the spray to come out as, well a spray . It didn't; it came out as a stream! The stream bounced off the nest and the eaves, right into my eyes, burning and temporarily blinding me. At the same time I could feel hornets falling all over me. Would you believe that I didn't get a single sting? That stuff is really deadly to hornets. Brady

When I was in my early 20s I blew up my landlords car battery in my face trying to give her a jump. (Not her personally she was ugly as sin). She was standing there crying because of what happened, but never offered to buy me a new battery for my trouble. (Maybe if I had jumped her she would have?) I had my glasses on so I didnt get any in my eyes but it sure scared me. I went into the filling station and washed all of the acid I could. My hat coat and pants all had holes in them the next day. I didnt realize at the time just how lucky I was not to have lost my eyesight.

Swede44mag : Maybe you know this by now, but that is why they recommend making the ground connection last, and making the connection at some point far from the battery terminal. The alternator bracket is usually a good place. It is also a good idea to lay an old mat or something similar over the battery, in case it does blow up. Brady

Had that happen to me when I was a lad, jumping a 24v truck system with two 12v car batteries. Bad connection between the truck's batteries, went to tighten it and BANG! Scared the bejeezus out of me. Only real damage was to my clothing, but I was sure freaked out for a while. - dan
