I've just bought some boxes of the 350gr Barnes X-bullets for use in my Remington 700 BDL Safari .416 Rem. Mag. I have previously been loading the 400gr Hornady RN behind 80gr of Vihtavuori N150 with great success. I realise with a 350gr bullet I should probably be using the N140 powder instead. What load would you suggest me for use with the 350gr Barnes X?

I've never tried Vihtavuori powders....if you can find some Alliant Reloader 15 (RL15), that is what I use, or Hodgdon Varget would work too....also Hodgdon h4895...I've used all these in my 416 rem with 300-400 grain bullets.

todbartell,
The problem for me is I have a very limited selection of powders available here. In fact I can only buy Vihtavuori or Norma powders, and I have the best experience using Vihtavuori. I hope someone have a pet load for this bullet using one of these powders...

Starting load for 350 gr X with VV N150 is 82,0 gr and max load is 84,0 gr. Length of the cartritge is 93,0 mm. Brass is from Remington and primer is Remington 9 1/2M. Velocities from 26" barrel are: start 744m/s, max. 773m/s.

That data is from a Finnish reloading manual, but still, BE CAREFUL!
