Rusty Dies

Do to divorce my reloading equipment has been in storage for over 10 years and guess what, everything has a a little rust build-up.

The press is going back to the good folks at dillion but what can I do with my dies? The interior rust seems to be very miniscule so I was thinking about tossing them in the vibrator but that got lost in all my moving. Since I need to replace it, do you think an ultrasonic cleaner will remove the rust?

The ultrasonic will do nothing in regards to removing rust.

0000 steel wool and some light oil should take care of the internals, and a wire wheel (fine) for the external.

I threw mine in the vibrator for a day and they
cleaned up on the outside pretty good. Inside also looks good.

For cleaning the outside of the die sets you can use a wire brush in an electric drill.
Takes care of the rust in no time! Just oil afterwards.

After you clean it with a drill and brush, wrap a patch around the brush and put a little Flitz on it and polish it once more.

I agree with the steel wool, or even a very fine water paper on a die (but go easy and don't chuck it in a drill) and Flitz (which I have used on a dowel chucked in a drill). I've used all of these methods with success.

The rust removal sprays work to some extent.
